Something not working the way you expected? You’re in the right place. Most issues have a simple fix โ browse the common problems below and you’ll likely be sorted in a few minutes.
๐ด The chat button isn’t showing up on my website
The most common reason: An API key hasn’t been saved yet. The chat button only appears after you’ve entered and saved your key.
Fix it:
- Go to your WordPress Dashboard โ Settings โ AI Navigator
- Make sure the API Key field has a key in it (the page will say “Key saved” if one is stored)
- If the field is empty, follow Step 2 of the Install Guide to get and enter a key
- Click Save Settings
- Visit your website in a new tab and look for the chat button in the bottom-right corner
Other things to check:
- Make sure the plugin is activated โ go to Plugins โ Installed Plugins and confirm AI Navigator shows as “Active”
- Try clearing your browser cache (hold Shift and click the refresh button)
- Try opening your site in a different browser or a private/incognito window
๐ด The assistant gave wrong or outdated answers
Why this happens: The assistant’s knowledge of your site updates automatically once a day. If you’ve recently added new pages or posts, it might not know about them yet.
Fix it:
- Go to Settings โ AI Navigator
- Scroll down and click Rebuild Index Now
- Test the assistant again โ it should now know about your latest content
๐ด The assistant says it can’t help or gives very generic answers
Why this happens: This usually means the assistant reached its usage limit, or there’s a problem with the API key.
Fix it:
- Go to Settings โ AI Navigator and check that your API key is still valid
- Log in to your AI provider’s website (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google) and check that your account is active and has credits or is within the free tier
- If your key expired or was deleted, create a new one and update it in the plugin settings
๐ด I’m seeing a “Too many requests” message
Why this happens: To protect your account from misuse, the plugin limits how many questions can be asked per hour from the same location. This is a safety feature.
Fix it:
- Wait an hour and try again โ the limit resets automatically
- If you’re running a busy site and need a higher limit, go to Settings โ AI Navigator โ Max requests per hour and increase the number (up to 200)
๐ด I changed something and now the key isn’t working
Why this happens: If you’ve changed your WordPress security keys (an advanced setting in WordPress), the encrypted API key stored by the plugin may no longer be readable.
Fix it:
- Go to Settings โ AI Navigator
- Re-enter your API key in the API Key field
- Click Save Settings
This re-encrypts the key with your current settings and everything should work again.
๐ด The Google Gemini assistant isn’t responding
Why this happens: Google Gemini has built-in content safety filters. Occasionally these filters block a response even for normal questions.
Fix it:
- Try rephrasing the question differently
- If it happens often, consider switching to a different AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic) in your plugin settings
๐ด The chat widget is showing up on pages where I don’t want it
Why this happens: By default, the chat button appears on all pages of your website.
Fix it: This requires a small code addition to your WordPress theme. If you’re comfortable with that, check our support resources for instructions. If not, feel free to contact us and we can walk you through it.
